Founders Park Old Town AlexandriaOne of the best aspects of living in Old Town Alexandria is being close to everything. There’s shopping, dining, entertainment, and beautiful outdoor areas like Founders Park.

Founders Park Offers a Tranquil Escape

Whether you’re the kind of person who likes to relax with a picnic and take in the views or stroll along the shoreline, you’ll be right at home in Founders Park.

Slip off your shoes and press your bare feet into the soft green grass, join a game of volleyball, or feed the ducks during the summer months or watch the many trees transition to shades of gold and crimson in the fall. If you run out of things to do at the park, you’re only two blocks from all the boutiques and restaurants on King Street or touring local artist studios at The Torpedo Factory.

A Park with a Truly Unique History

Interestingly enough, if it weren’t for a handful of residents living on Queen, Quay, Princess, and Union streets, Founders Park wouldn’t even exist. In 1978 there was talk of building an apartment complex on the site, but the opposition from nearby residents was so strong that the plan was eventually dismissed. In 1979 the Founders Park Community Association was formed, and they’ve been maintaining and improving the park ever since.
